Don’t do too much.

Creative thinkers have loads of ideas. Hopefully good ones.

And are always really excited about making as many of them as possible.

I used to have this problem a lot. As both a creative and CD.

Starting January with a massive list of things to make happen. Then in December realising we’d not got much of it done. The day-to-day always took priority.

It took a change of approach to fix, not just having that yearly goal but creating monthly or quarterly goals too. Little targets that all stacked up to that main one. Everything naturally coming together week by week and month by month.

If the yearly goal is ‘Win a major award’. You can spend the year trying, or hoping, to create that winner on each brief.

Or, with smaller goals, you can tackle a series of subjects that all make it much more likely.

Things like…

// Start inspiration sharing sessions.

// Make briefings more creative.

// Put together a database of great craft partners.

// Investigate what your target awards look for in entries.

// Create a checklist of what makes a great entry.

Each of these could last a month or two.

And for each you can form a mini-team to action it. Empowering people to become part of positive change themselves.

Not just great for their training and ambition, it also means there’s less for you to do yourself. Handy!

The first year we did things this way we achieved much more than we ever had before.
