I’ve worked with a lot of people I hate.
Let’s name each and every one of them.
Ok… I’m not actually going to call out individuals, that’s gratuitous clickbait, but I have come up against characters I dislike time and time again…
The one who only talks in buzzwords.
The one who still thinks it’s the 80s.
The one who is always following the latest trend.
The one who always says the brief is terrible.
The one who only sees things from their perspective.
The one who always thinks their job’s the most important.
The one who feeds on drama.
The one who just wants to get it out.
The one who always thinks their own work’s amazing.
The one who thinks they know it all.
The one who chases awards.
The one who is always in a flap.
The one who always says the first work’s rubbish.
The one who lives off a campaign from years ago.
The one who is ‘just a straight-talker’.
The one who refuses every amend.
The one who sees the ‘Suits’ as the enemy.
The one who says the client can f’ off if they don't like it.
All the ones who aren’t helping make work great.
I could go on, I did and had to edit down (I’m also sure some people think I should have added myself. Be careful or you’ll make the next list).
Often the types I’ve mentioned above are trying to live up to some idea of ‘The Ad-Man’ or ‘The Creative’.
This industry’s full of ‘characters’, it needs to be, but that can be good or bad.
You want ones who are genuine, lively, upbeat and energetic.
Ones who bring creativity, innovation, collaboration and possibility.
That’s who I’ve always loved working with.
